Civil, Social, and Person Context
Freshman Year
My Life
For this assignment, we had to learn how to make a movie and how to use our own pictures in it. We had to chose pictures that described our lives and what we enjoyed. I think that this counts as a DRSL because I had to use my outside life for a class assignment.
Sophomore Year
History Quiz
This was one of my assignments that I had to do for my Navajo Government class. We were ask by our instructor, Mr. Long, to read a small section of a history packet and make questions out of them. Then we would present them to the class and see if they could answer them, if they couldn't, we would tell them the answers.
Junior Year
Belle Star: Extra Credit
This was a presentation that I did to earn a few extra credit points. I had to chose a person who was from the "Wild West" time and do a presentation on them to my U.S. History class. The reason that this fitted for this DRSl because I did it outside of school for my learning and benefits. This works for the DRSl is because I had to work on this and get the information for this outside of school. I had to learn about her so that I could teach my peers about her. I had the opportunity to teach them about a person from a time period that we didn't get to spend a lot of time on.
Senior Year
Adopt-A-Native Elder Dinner
This is a dinner that my sister and I, and the Native American Club, put together for the Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program. What this program does is provides supplies for the Elders who are living the traditional way out on the reservation. Some places on the reservation have no running water and nothing around them for miles. The profits from the dinner and the silent auction that we did all went to our Elder so we can get them the things that they need. The tickets were $10.00 and they included a dinner and entertainment. We had many people that prepared cultural food and donated their time to make this dinner happen. This fits this DRSL because I was able to do something that I learned about in a club from school and apply it to the outside world. I am so grateful that I got to do this because I was able to help and show pride for my culture and the Native Elder.
