Nutrition 1020
Signature Assignment: Nutrition Perspectives
Reflection
1.) Make connections between what you studied in this nutrition course with what you’ve learned in other courses at SLCC or before. Make specific references to your work in this class and in the other courses. How did what you learn in the other courses enhance what you learned in nutrition, and vice versa?
-I don't think that I have made a lot of connections with other classes besides my psychology class, we talked lightly about eating disorders but did not go too into depth. Learning what little i did in my psychology class, I had some what of a back ground into what eating disorders there were, this class just taught me more about what it does to the body on a physical level vs. a mental level.
2.) Reflect on how you thought about nutrition before you took this course and how you think about it now that the course is over. Have any of your assumptions or understandings changed? Why? What assignments/activities/readings were influential in this process? How will you approach (course topic) differently in the future?
-I thought that this class would just tell me what type of healthy foods to eat and what type of vitamins and minerals that I should take. Now that it is over, I have learned about some many things on a cellular and chemical reaction levels. I did not think that it would go into depth as much as it did and it also changed my assumption that this was just going to tell me what to eat and do to have a healthier lifestyle. One of the most influential assignment that were super influential was watching the Food Inc. documentary, it really opened my eye and showed me what is really going on with the food industry and why I need to be more conscience about what I am purchasing when it comes to meat and produce. I think I would approach courses like this by being more open minded and not just assuming that it is going to be the bare minimum.
